MOUNDRIDGE – Staff for USD 423 presented a plan to place the district’s pre-kindergarten program at Moundridge Elementary School to the Moundridge Board of Education during its meeting Monday, Dec. 11, at the USD 423 board room.

Currently, Cradles to Crayons Childcare Center operates the pre-kindergarten program for the school district, which provides flow-through funds of $20,000 from the state for 10 part-time students to attend preschool.

Superintendent George Leary said the primary reason the district decided it wanted full responsibility for the program was due to the Kansas State Department of Education’s (KSDE) Vision for the Future, which stresses the importance of making sure young children are ready to attend kindergarten.

“KSDE and the Kansas Legislature are encouraging districts to promote early childhood education,” Leary said. “Additional monies are being directed to pre-k programs.”
