Fisher Receives Chamber’s Distinguished Service Award

The Ledger StaffWAYNE Fisher received a distinguished service award from the Moundridge Chamber of Commerce during the Chamber’s annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 21, at Cloud Nine in Moundridge. MOUNDRIDGE – Wayne Fisher, whose 17 years with Moundridge Chamber of Commerce included four terms as president, received a Distinguished Service Award for the Chamber during its annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 21, at Cloud Nine in Moundridge.

“It’s definitely a surprise,” Fisher said. “I wasn’t expecting anything at all.

“I really appreciate,” he continued. ”It’s not often that I’m left speechless.”

Fisher was going off the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

The Chamber announced the winners of two other awards. Reed Gleason, with The Citizens State Bank, was chosen Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Black Kettle Festival. CK Pharmacy – Moundridge, with owners Steve and Melissa Kuder, was selected Business of the Year.

Ureche Chosen Parade Grand Marshal

The Ledger StaffPASTOR Dennis Ureche, with St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, was chosen the grand marshal for this year’s Santa Fe Days Parade Saturday, Sept. 23, in Inman. INMAN – Pastor Dennis Ureche, with St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Inman, has become known for his pancakes.

For the last several years, Ureche has been involved with flipping pancakes for the St. Peter’s Women’s Fellowship breakfast served the morning of Santa Fe Days, at the church.

He also prepares pancakes for Inman Lions Club fundraisers as well as the monthly Inman Senior Center pancake breakfasts.

Ratzlaff Earns Commended Honors

MOUNDRIDGE – Luke Ratzlaff, senior at Moundridge High School, received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program for the score he earned on the Preliminary SAT.

“When I got the preliminary scores and saw I was in the running for honors, I didn’t feel like I did that well,” Ratzlaff said. “When I saw I got a Letter of Commendation, I thought, ‘This is sweet.’”

According to the National Merit website, 34,000of the approximate 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their academic promise.
