Day On The Farm: FFA Students Teach Ag Activities

MOUNDRIDGE – Silas Courtney brought her friend’s gelding, Gus, to show Moundridge Elementary School students during the Moundridge FFA Chapter’s Day at the Farm event Friday, April 13, at the Moundridge Museum Complex on Cole Street.

“I think they all seem to like learning about different things,” Courtney said. “It’s been good. I’ve enjoyed it.”

Ali Torr, Moundridge’s FFA sponsor, said there were eight stations set up for the younger students to listen about agriculture-related items.

The MES students were divided into two groups. The kindergarten to second-grade students went through first and then the third and fourth graders had an opportunity to go through.

Parr Suggests Inman Purchase Radio-Read Meters

INMAN – Inman City Superintendent Danny Parr proposed purchasing radio-read water meters for anyone hooked up to the city’s water system.

Parr made the proposal during the Inman City Council meeting Monday, April 9, at the city office.

“The biggest benefit is a more accurate reading from the meters,” Parr said.

Parr said replacing all the water meters in town would be a $200,000 investment.

Moundridge District Moves Up Last Day Of School

MOUNDRIDGE – Students in the Moundridge School District will be able to start their summer vacations a couple of days earlier then originally scheduled.

District officials were going to end school at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 24. Now students will put in a full day – Tuesday, May 22 – for their final day.

Members of the USD 423 Board of Education approved the change during their regular meeting Monday, April 9, in the USD 423 boardroom.

“We wanted to do it now to give parents a chance to plan out the end of the school year,” Moundridge Superintendent George Leary said. “We want to give them time to make arrangements.”
