Avis I. ‘Dottie’ Morrison

PRETTY PRAIRIE - Avis I. “Dottie” Morrison, 85, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at Hospice House, in Hutchinson. She was born Aug. 27, 1931, in Pretty Prairie, to Edward Dwight and Lorene (Schwartz) Goering. 

Avis graduated from Pretty Prairie High School in 1949 and Salt City Business College. She worked for Dillon’s Grocery Stores in Hutchinson.  Later, Avis worked as a certified medication aide for 17 years at Prairie Sunset Home, and was a homemaker. Avis was a member of First Mennonite Church, in Pretty Prairie. 

On June 1, 1956, she married James I. “Jim” Morrison in Pretty Prairie.  They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. 

Survivors include husband, James; sons, Dennis (Diane) of Moundridge and their children, Michelle and Mathew, Dwight (Rosario) of Hutchinson and her children, Jordi Vilahur (Abbie) and Marc Vilahur, Daryl (Penny) of St. Joseph, Missouri and their children, Megan, Jordan (Sarah), Logan, and Tysan; daughter, Denise Welker (Jeff) of Pretty Prairie and their children, Jenny and Jacob; sisters, Arlene Doerksen and Lois Cline, both of South Hutchinson; and brother, Willis Goering of Pretty Prairie.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wilbur Goering.

Funeral service was Friday, Aug. 11, at First Mennonite Church, 1718 W. Pretty Prairie Road, in Pretty Prairie, with Pastor Dave Denlinger officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or First Mennonite Church, in Pretty Prairie, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

Ada Mae Koehn, 85

MOUNDRIDGE - Ada Mae Koehn, 85, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at Moundridge Manor, in Moundridge.

She was born Sept. 3, 1931, at Halstead to Daniel C. and Elizabeth (Becker) Buller.

She was a member of Grace Mennonite Church, in Halstead, homemaker and lifelong Halstead resident.

On June 1, 1952, she married Clayton H. Koehn, at Halstead. He preceded her in death April 21, 2017.

Survivors include sons, Ronald (Rhona) Koehn, Darvin (Diane) Koehn, Jason (Melanie) Koehn, all of Halstead; daughters, Kathy (Elwood) Smith of Texline, Texas; Elizabeth (Charles) Koehn of Prairie, Mississippi; Karen Koehn of Moundridge; brother, Chris (Karen) Buller of Newton; sisters, Judy (Alton) Koehn, Detroit, Texas; Helen (Lorne) Reimer of Halstead; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Paula Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Koehn, Dallas Koehn and Erin Unruh; brothers, Jonas, Aaron, Reuben, Irvin, and Jim Buller; and sisters, Edna Koehn, Amanda Unruh and Hilma Dirks.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, at Grace Mennonite Church in Halstead with Ministers Marlin Unruh, Dean Becker, and Stanley Wiggers officiating.

Burial will follow at Halstead Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Moundridge Manor in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, in Halstead.

Twila Holdeman Unruh, 94

MOUNDRIDGE - Twila Mae Unruh, 94, passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, in Moundridge. She was born Feb. 26, 1923, to Frank and Fanny Overholt Holdeman on the family farm, in rural Hesston.

Survivors include four sons and four daughters, Verla Unruh of Moundridge, Lowell J. (Cindy) Unruh of Hesston, Ardith (Robert) Schmidt of Alligator, Mississippi, Joe (Martha) Unruh of Halstead, Doug (Nancy) Unruh of Halstead, Doris (Dwight) Koehn of Butler, Missouri, Ward (Margaret) Unruh of Halstead, and Elsie (Roger) Penner of Bridgewater, Maine; 30 grandchildren; and 67 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernard Unruh in 1981 and one grandson, Timothy.

Funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 10, at the GardenView Mennonite Church, 11626 NW 36th Street, in Halstead.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to HSI-Humanitarian Service International, designated to be given to children for harelip repair surgery, in care of Moundridge Funeral Home.
